Green – or greenery – is THE color of the year, according to Pantone Color Institute. To most, green is known as a spring or summer color, but how can we use green throughout the year in our everyday lives?

Not only is green refreshing and revitalizing, it’s symbolic of new beginnings. And what business doesn’t want to be in the “it” scene with modern office space and lifestyle benefits to attract the brightest and the best.

Green definitely draws attention outside office buildings. We know the importance of curb appeal to high occupancy rates. Greenery is just as important inside office buildings.

How do offices increase or improve their inside greenery? Living walls are a key component to bring a natural, cool look and feel to an office space.  Both inside and outside, green walls and living walls bring people to life. Don’t be surprised if you see an extra spring in the step of your coworkers or people coming out of their cubicles to eat lunch.

So what is a living or green wall?  They are self-sufficient vertical gardens that are attached to the exterior or interior of a building. They differ from ivy walls in that green or living walls are rooted in a structural support which is fastened to the wall itself.

Living walls are covered in their entirety with plant material. It can be ivy or vines,  covered with potted plants that are anchored to the structure or a unique combination.

How do green walls benefit you?

  • They do a great job of cleaning interior air space by removing pollutants in the air.
  • They act as a soundproofing barrier – good for modern shared work spaces.
  • They reduce absenteeism in the workplace.
  • They boost employee morale.
  • They increase oxygen.
  • They create natural humidity.

You can create your own signature style with a living green wall. As an emerging design trend, green walls don’t need to look a like. They are as unique as the designer is, taking on different shapes, looks, feels and textures. Finally, they are low maintenance because they include automatic irrigation systems.
