Earth Day 2010
On Earth Day, April 22, members of the Raimondi Horticultural
Group team will join with the faculty and students of Bergen
Community College to spread the word about the health benefits
of living plants on air quality. As part of our continuing
support of PLANET’s annual Day of Service, we’ll be giving away
several hundred "clean air machines", also
known as Spathiphyllum, a plant proven to remove toxins such as
benzene and formaldehyde from the air. Look for a recap of this
worthwhile event in our next issue.
Fast Facts... The air quality in a 200-square-foot room with eight-to-nine foot ceilings can be greatly improved by adding just two or three medium-sized plants. Flowering plants like
Chrysanthemums are great choices, as are leafy green options such as English Ivy, Bamboo and Chinese Evergreen.
Studies show that indoor air can be up to ten times more polluted than outside air.

Also known as Narcissus, Daffodils come in many color
combinations and are the perfect flower and plant to send to
celebrate early spring. The smallest versions, called tete a
tetes, are the earliest spring bloomers and are beautiful when
paired with their larger counterparts. Daffodils are among the
easiest and most dependable spring flowers.
